The Struthers softball team is gearing up for another season. Hannah Susany, a sophomore, is ready to take on the challenge of stepping up her game. Having played for 8 years, the left fielder brings a lot of experience to the game.
Part of being a good athlete is being a good team player. Working together and encouraging the team is key to achieving success both on and off the field.
Susany practices this mindset with her team.
“I like to help bring others’ moods up because softball is really physical and mental. If your mind is not right at the time, it kind of puts a burden on the game,” says the athlete.
Softball is often as much a mental game as it is a physical game. Staying positive and having a good mindset is very important for any player.
Susany uses positive self talk to help her during pre game.
“At first I get a lot of anxiety, but I try to remember that no matter win or loss, you’re still putting in your best effort,” says the softball player.
Giving yourself grace when mistakes are made is all part of improving. In athletics, every adversity makes you stronger.
This is a mindset Susany tries to keep.
“Just stick to it no matter the hardships because it all can pay off for you in the future. I think there’s always room for growth and not to get down when making mistakes because everyone makes them,” says the athlete.
