Giavanna Smiley is a sophomore at Struthers High school. She plays varsity on the school’s softball team. She also plays travel softball. She has been playing for 8 years and plays center field.
She prepares heavily for her games and always puts her best effort into them.
Smiley says, “I prepare for my games by listening to music and just having fun with my teammates. To balance my academic responsibilities with softball, I try to get as much work done in school and not procrastinate when I get home from practice or a game.”
She loves her team and her teammates. They all make practice and games fun and exciting, so it’s never a bad time.
She expresses how crazy everything works out.
Smiley says, “Honestly, the bond with the team is so shocking on how we are able to get along so well. It’s such an inspiring view to see a team get along so amazingly, and I feel such a big love for them on and off the field. When we are playing we work so well together that it makes it easy to get along.”
She hopes to get a Division 1 or Division 2 offer. She continues to learn and set goals for herself.
She loves celebrating after games, especially after a big win.
Smiley says, “The celebrations differ when it’s with my travel team or my Struthers team. After a win with my school team, the majority of us end up going out to eat after the game. We get to laugh and have a goof off after an amazing game. With my travel team, we usually just go back to the hotel, swim, go out to eat and just end the night off by running around.”
She wants to express to younger players to not let bad coaches doubt your capabilities and always practice off the field.
She loves to push herself to be the best player she can be. She tries to keep herself motivated and set her own goals. She sets them high and puts in all her effort to achieve them.
