Ms. Jennifer Jones is a new track coach at Struthers High School. As she prepares for the upcoming season, she’s eager to embrace new opportunities and work with her athletes.
Transitioning from coaching middle school athletes to high school athletes is a big jump. Guiding younger athletes into the high school level can be challenging, but Jones is excited to explore this part of coaching.
Jones anticipates her new runners will rise above challenges.
“I envision helping the younger athletes transition to high school track by helping them to build upon what they already have learned. I will set goals to help them to expand on their strengths and weaknesses,” says the coach.
Coaching presents its challenges. Track is very much a mental sport and when athletes have negative mindsets, it can affect their performance. Part of being a coach is working through these obstacles.
Jones will implement this in her coaching.
“I hear athletes say that they can’t before they even try. However, when they realize they really can do what they put their mind to, their confidence comes out and they put their all into every practice and race,” says Jones.
Coaching can be very rewarding. Seeing your athletes succeed is one of the best parts.
Jones reflects on her experience.
“The most rewarding points of being a coach is watching athletes overcome their own doubts, seeing them get better week after week, as well as watching them have fun,” says the coach.
