Isabella Sahli is a junior on the Struthers varsity girls basketball team who was nominated for Student Athlete of the Week.
Sahli has been playing basketball since the third grade, making this year a total of 8 years.
The athlete enjoys basketball more than any other sports due to the history and time she has spent participating in it.
“Basketball is my favorite sport because I have played it for the longest, and I have made the most memories while playing basketball. It’s hard to not love something that has been such a huge part of my life for such a long time,” says Sahli.
Sahli does not plan on continuing to play basketball after high school. She hopes to go to Youngstown State University and to either major in physical therapy or journalism.
The junior’s biggest achievements consist of becoming a stronger offensive player and taking her own shots when that’s far from what she is used to.
“Scoring 11 points during our Poland away game and hitting clutch free throws during our Lakeview home game this year. Before this season, I was never really a scorer so those were huge accomplishments for me,” says Sahli.
The athlete’s favorite part of basketball is growing closer with her teammates and forming a family-like bond with every person.
Sahli was shocked at the idea of her nomination, but is very appreciative seeing her passion and dedication didn’t go unseen.
“It was very surprising, and I was very grateful to receive the recognition. It is very nice to see my hard work get noticed, as I try to constantly put my all into the sports I play,” says Sahli.
