A high school student, Cher Horowitz (Alicia Sliverstone), befriends a new student and decides to give her a makeover to be a better person to others.
Cher lives with a wealthy family with her father who is a successful lawyer. Cher and her best friend, Dionne (Stacey Dash), have similar interests especially with stylish clothes. At home, Char interacts with Josh (Paul Rudd), who often stays at the house to avoid his mother and new stepfather. Later on, Cher and Dionne decide to become friends with Tai (Brittany Murphy) to give her a makeover and improve her social standing in high school. Josh disapproves of this saying that she is attempting to turn an innocent girl into a superficial brat, but Char tells him that she is doing Tai a favor. As the story goes on with Tai trying to find a new boyfriend, she ends up having a crush on Josh which makes Cher jealous and Tai ends up getting upset with her. Not long after this fight, Tai approaches Cher apologizing, and the two become friends again. Once Cher and Tai become friends again, the movie ends with Cher bringing Josh as her date to Mr. Hall and Miss Geist’s wedding which announced that they are dating, whereas Tai started dating Travis.
Overall, this movie is a classic and is a good humorous family movie. The actors in the movie were very good, especially Sliverstone who played Cher. The plot had you glued to the screen, and it was a good enough movie to watch multiple times. The soundtrack and the iconic outfits they wore really brought this movie together. It gives a good message to watchers which is the importance of friendships. It also goes into female empowerment and how the main character was a successful, capable and hardworking girl. Even though the main character lived a rich life, she still was humble enough not to be a bad person to others.
One thing that could have been better is that the plot was very predictable and nothing was really surprising in what happened. There wasn’t really a climax in the movie where things were really shocking since the conflict that happened was expected. Also, there were a lot of stereotypes about women. For example, they are bad drivers and they all care about what clothes they wear. The “happy ending” was just overall very bland and generic which made the plot not as interesting for some watchers.
“Clueless” deserves 8 out of 10 stars because the plot was empty and nothing really crazy happened but it was a classical and humorous movie. This movie is recommended for a teenage girl who wants a comedy movie to watch with friends or family.
