This game was a showdown between two top teams in college basketball. This game took place on February 15th. This is a huge game to make a statement win. Auburn is the number one team in college. They are the team to beat this season.
Auburn outlasted Alabama 95-85 in a long tough-fought game between these two teams. This was a high scoring game.
Johni Broome put up a 19-point, 14-rebound double-double even while not fully healthy. He played very well in this game while suffering an injury.
Broome came into this game knowing they were battling a tough opponent and came out and got the job done.
Broome said, “We knew we had to come out and play our best and play for our team and fans”
Broome re-aggravated his ankle in the game, landing on it going up for a floater while Alabama was on a 10-0 run going into the second half.
Freshman Tahaad Pettiford anchored the Tigers off with nine points in the second half alone. The guard went 4-for-6 from the field going.
Bruce Pearl said, “Tahaad played a heck of a game tonight stepping up as a freshman and helping the team keep this winning streak going.”
Auburn came out in the second half firing from three hitting 3 consecutive threes and putting them up by 13, Pettiford sank a triple and also showcased elite defense having 5 steals in the second half.
This is a huge win for Auburn. They are on a winning streak. Nobody seems to be stopping them. These guys are hungry to go all the way.
People thought that Pettiford would not be ready for that level, but people found out very quickly how he can play and what he can do.
Auburn didn’t let up in this game; they finished strong and played as a team. Broome did not come back but that wasn’t a problem for Auburn as they went on to win the game 95-85.
Broome says, “My teammates knew I was upset that I couldn’t help the team, but they played for me, and that’s why having connections with your teammates is a big thing on this team. I suffered a high ankle sprain the week before at practice and tweaked it again in the game tonight, so I’m planning on taking a better recovery before the next game.”
