OSU trustees extended The Ohio State Buckeyes football head coach Ryan Day contract to 2031.
Day led The Buckeyes to a great CFB National Championship win on January 20, with a score of 34-23. His contract was set to expire in 2028 before he signed his new contract extending it to 2031. Day is the second highest paid head coach in college league football.
Ryan Day became the acting head coach in 2018 but was officially named head coach in 2019. Day has led the Buckeyes to a 56-8 record as head coach. In 2019, he was named the first Ohio State coach to be named Big-Ten Conference Coach of the Year.
Ross Bjork the Senior Vice President at Ohio State implemented on how Day is a great coach for the players and how he’s an awesome person to work with.
“I just enjoy working with coach Day. I think he’s awesome to work with the staff, the culture in that building, and being around the players,” said Bjork.
Day started at Ohio State as a co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the Buckeyes in 2017. Previously he worked for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2015 and the San Francisco 49ers in 2016.
Coach Day was very thankful for the opportunity to stay with The Buckeye longer and that they trust him to be the one to lead the Buckeyes.
“I want to thank President Ted Carter, director of athletics Ross Bjork and the Board of Trustees for the confidence and trust they have in me to oversee this program,” said Day.
Day led Ohio State to their ninth National Championship since 2014. In 2021, Ohio State was number one nationally in total offense and scoring offense. Day also led them to win back to back conference championships in 2019 and 2020.
Day and his family are truly thankful to be a part of a great nation, the Buckeye Nation and community.
“My family and I are incredibly grateful to be a part of the Ohio State community, this football program and Buckeye Nation,” said Day.
