Mrs. Mickler has been a teacher at Struthers High School for 18 years.
The most frustrating part of teaching is that she believes she can’t cover as much information as she would like in one school year.
Mickler enjoys many activities outside of school, and one of her favorite things to do is spend time with her dog named Moose.
“I love shopping, working out, spending time with my husband and spending as much time as I can with Moose (my angel),” says the dog lover.
Mickler’s educational background is that she attended Struthers, YSU and Ashland University, and she is going to be working on a class during the summer of 2025 to get her CCP certification.
The Peloton lover wanted to teach Journalism because she wanted to allow her students to be engaged in the school and meet new people.
“I like Journalism for many reasons. It’s fun to allow students to be engaged with the events and people in the school. We have a lot of great people and happenings here, so I’m glad we get to highlight them for all to see. I also like to publish the newspaper because it’s like a time capsule of important events happening during the time period. Finally, the students make the class what it is. Not many classes allow students to take them every year, so I get to have a lot of students numerous times throughout their high school careers,” says the Journalism teacher.
The teacher believes that she is still going to be in the same room in 10 years.
Mickler wanted to become a teacher because she wanted a job that was more calm than a normal job.
“I wanted a job that didn’t seem like “work.” There are some downsides, but the good outweighs the bad. The students are the best part of my day. This is a job where it’s on me to make it what it is; I love that about it. I knew I wanted to help students grow into awesome adults, and this job allows me to do just that,” says the English teacher.
One word that her students would use to describe her is loud and very caring.
