Teenager Cady Heron (Lindsay Lohan) was homeschooled her whole life in Africa and when she moves to Illinois Cady finally gets to go to a public school and have a high school experience.
Cady’s first day of school consists of awkwardness and honestly loneliness because she had a hard time finding friends. As a new student who was also homeschooled, she had trouble understanding the social dynamics of high school and ended up eating lunch alone in the bathroom. Eventually, Cady gets recognized by “the Plastics” and they decide for her to join their group. Janis Ian (Izzy Caplan), Cady’s newest friend, told her this is a good idea because she could use her to get revenge on Regina George (Rachel McAdams), who is the leader of the Plastics. The more time she is with the Plastics the more she starts to turn into them and ends up being exactly like Regina. This causes conflict between Janis and Cady which develops the plot to Regina spreading pages from the “Burn Book” around the school to cause chaos. The ending is when Cady realizes how destructive her actions were and decides to publicly take responsibility for the Burn Book at the Spring Fling dance. This effectively causes her to reconcile with her old friends, Janis and Damian Leigh (Daniel Frazese).
This movie is very humorous and can show how trying to fit in with people that are known to be unfriendly isn’t the best choice to make. The acting in this movie was very amusing based on how they portrayed a high school experience as chaotic. Regina’s acting made her confident, socially intelligent and also manipulative due to the fact that the other Plastics have been shown to always follow her around and do everything she says. This movie teaches you that life isn’t about trying to impress everyone or even hanging out with a popular group, but to just be yourself and to not let anyone control you so you meet people that are right for you.
This movie could also be relatable for some people in high school. Despite the humorous part of the movie, it shows that some people struggle with trying to fit in. In the beginning, we can tell that Cady is having a hard time trying to make friends and throughout the movie she became friends with the Plastics to try to make herself more popular or likeable. In the end, she realizes that she turned into a person who wasn’t herself and then ended up joining the math team to redeem herself. This movie shows that being yourself brings better outcomes even in an unfortunate situation.
“Mean Girls” deserves a 9 out of 10 star rating due to the great actors, the humorous plot, and it overall gives you a content feeling. This movie would be recommended to watch with your family to get a good laugh in.
