The book is a part of an unfinished spin-off series of “The Inheritance Games.” The Grandest Game is a competition open to anyone who can find or get sent one of the seven gold tickets to enter. The main characters and narrators of the story are Gigi, Lyra and Rohan. They are each in a different room with other players, and they have to work together with the others in the room to escape in order to make it out before sunrise. In the room, there is a series of riddles and puzzles they have to solve. If their entire team doesn’t escape and make it to the dock in time, they are eliminated from the game.
In the novel, most of the characters are people mentioned in the original “Inheritance Games” series. There are many connections to the books in the original series that fill plot holes and add more to the depth of certain characters. It is truly captivating seeing the deepness of characters that did not have a POV in the other books. The character development is phenomenal in this story, and there were many twists, turns and lies. The characters make this story super interesting and entertaining and makes you never want to put the book down.
The book has lots of riddles and puzzles that leave suspense and mystery throughout the story. It is interesting seeing three different characters solving the same or similar riddles and eventually separating and each having their own uniquely designed puzzles for their team. It brings tension to the story and keeps the reader engrossed in the book.
