The Texas Longhorns battled against the Ohio State Buckeyes in an unforgettable Cotton Bowl in Arlington, Texas, on January 10. This was more than just a win or loss; both the teams had high stakes since they’re both currently considered the best in their respective areas. The winner would move on to the national championship therefore causing both of the respected teams to push a hard fought fight. The game unfolded with determination, big plays and game changing final drives. It was a hard fought battle at the cotton bowl eventually leading to Ohio State’s win.
Ohio State was able to show their skill early in the game, with their running back Quinshon Judkins scoring the first touchdown putting Ohio State on the board. He ended the game with 9 carries, 36 yds and 2 touchdowns. The quarterback, Will Howard had a decent run too. He ended the game with a 24/33 Catch and Attempt ratio, 289 Yards gained, 1 TD and 1 INT. With these strong plays, Ohio State was able to take an early lead and set the tone of the game.
Ohio State’s running back, Judkins thinks his team’s team spirit carried them through the game based on their performance.
“It’s not about me, like this is such a group, a great group of guys, and we’ve been through so much and so much adversity we faced throughout this whole season leaving us with nothing but gratitude,” says Judkins.
Even though the Longhorns lost, they still fought a hardwilled battle. Their quarterback, Quinn Ewers, completed 23/39 passes for 283 yards, and threw 2 touchdowns. Wide Receiver Jaydon Blue contributed with 5 Catches for 59 yards and 2 touchdowns. Despite their efforts, Texas couldn’t overcome Ohio State’s impressive defensive stops and timely offensive plays.
In the post game, Texas Quarterback Quinn Ewers believes the struggle of losing but still provided a sportsmanship perspective.
“You know, it’s tough,” says Ewers. “It’s the life of a competitor and it sucks. Back to back years pretty much, the game was decided in one play. But you know, I think that’s how life is. You’re gonna get punched in the face and. In some hard moments, all you need to do is get back up.”
This game was a turning point for both teams in the final quarter, Ohio State clutched a victory and forced a great touchdown drive. This play not only gave them the lead, but it also sealed the game.
After the game, Head Coach Ryan Day, gave gratitude to the coaches that coached both teams.
“I first want to say I want to give all the respect to coach Sark and his staff,” says Day.
In the end, Ohio State emerged as the winner of the 2025 Cotton Bowl. The victory was a significant milestone for the Buckeyes, eventually pushing them towards the national championship while proving that teamwork and resilience can make all the difference on the field.
