Should pro athletes get paid as much as they do?
Pro athletes generate a lot of money for their companies and should get a piece of the profit.
The amount of money pro athletes generated–just in Major U.S. sports leagues like the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, and MLS–was $49.3 billion between 2022 and 2023. It’s a business and not all people have the ability to go pro, so the money they are getting is reasonable. The Ohio State University’s website says, “Roughly speaking, there were 1,083,308 high school football players competing, and eventually 251 made it to pro. After simple calculation, we can get that the percentage of student-athletes going pro is approximately 0.023%. In truth, this number is not encouraging for anyone eager for a professional career.” This shows just how few people actually have the skill and work ethic to make it that far; not to mention how dangerous some sports like football can be and with the rise of research on CTE. We can see just how much stuff like that can affect you for the rest of your life.
Some people believe that pro athletes should not get paid as much as they do because there are jobs that are very important that don’t get paid enough like teachers and nurses; while people who entertain make 100,000,000’s of millions of dollars. Even if they didn’t get paid that much, the NFL and the teams would keep the money. Plus, they are just getting a piece of the money they are generating but nurses and teachers are very important and do deceive more money.
Teams and the organizations should do more charity and help their communities as much as they can. This way everyone can benefit from the teams and players in their towns.
While they do get paid a lot, it has been like that for a while. As the leagues make more money, the players would make more money which is good for the athletes and the many people these organizations employ.
