After suffering another leg injury against the Chiefs, Nick Chubb has struggled to bounce back. His future with the Cleveland Browns is uncertain.
During the Browns week 15 matchup against the Chiefs, Browns RB Chubb went down with a knee injury after just coming back from a season ending injury weeks prior. This is the second time Chubb has had a season-ending injury with the Browns and three season-ending injuries in his career total. All injuries are on the same leg.
With Chubb being on his third knee injury with a second season straight being injured, it makes people think where will his spot be on the team next season. Browns Running Back Coach Duce Staley has high hopes for Chubb.
“Yeah, it’s tough,” Staley said. “Just being able to watch that video of him coming back, being able to watch that movie, what he went through to get healthy, just working as hard as he could just to get back to play. So it’s tough to see him go through that. But we all know as running backs, and I definitely know, there’s a couple potholes in the road you hit throughout your career, but you keep fighting and you keep bouncing back and that’s the love for the game. That’s why I expect for Nick to come back 100%.”
Chubb went down with a foot injury that was believed to be just stepped on but not too bad. After missing six regular seasons from still rehabbing his knee, the foot injury went on to take Chubb out for the season making him a free agent in 2025.
Chubb brings too much to the Browns team, but who knows where he will be next season.
“I can’t tell you how much I respect him as a person, what he means to this football team,” Browns Head Coach Kevin Stefanski said. “So, really, really disappointed about this injury. Does not change the fact that he continues to inspire this football team with how he approaches every single day. And I know this is another obstacle that he will overcome.”
Chubb will have the full offseason to recover from this injury and get back to full strength. He has been on the Browns team since he was drafted back in the second round of the 2018 NFL draft. He’s had so many moments putting the team on his back to secure the win.
With how much Chubb has brought to the Browns organization, they aren’t just going to let him walk, but his future with the team is still undecided.
“He’s not walking out with any preconceived notions that he’s definitely coming back,” Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com said of Chubb. “So I think he’s probably going to have to decide what he wants to do. If he doesn’t find what he wants out there, then maybe he’s willing to come back on some kind of a minimum contract and they can work through some incentives and things like that.”
