Perry Miller turns 40 and rethinks his past, remembering his old band and life before fatherhood.
“Ordinary World” is a dramedy movie about a husband and father who, on his 40th birthday, experiences a mid-life crisis and decides to revisit his punk-rock past by throwing a significant party at the presidential suite in the Drake Hotel. He runs into his ex-girlfriend Christy, and members of his old band, bringing up his past furthering his crisis. Perry frequently has flashback episodes of being on stage with his band performing, reminiscing over the days before he had children.
The first scene of the movie was a flashback to when Perry was young and in a band in the 90s performing a song. The movie had a couple songs played throughout it, one being played acoustic by him. Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day, who played Perry Miller, wrote 4 songs for the movie which were amazing. They had a great sound to them and the lyrics were relevant to Perry’s life. He released one song on a Green Day album and another on an album by The Longshot, another band he is in. These songs helped develop the movie and made the watchers feel the emotion that Perry did. The songs were a great addition to the movie, adding entertainment and interest.
“Ordinary World” is a very human story that shows struggles and responsibilities. It gives an inside look on the life of a father trying to get his mind off of the responsibilities of fatherhood while turning 40 and trying to let loose and have fun. It exhibits lots of emotion which makes it such an interesting movie. The actors did a great job and the plot was very relatable and compelling.
The movie is amazing and dramatic but also comedic with impactful characters. “Ordinary World” is a 4 out of 5 star movie because of the touching topics of fatherhood and nostalgia and how it keeps the watcher interested.
