Four college football standouts, Colorado’s Travis Hunter, Boise State’s Ashton Jeany, Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel and Miami’s Cam Ward, were the standout finalists heading to New York to determine the Heisman Trophy winner. The prestigious award, which holds a great significance in college football, was ultimately given to the player who had the best season. Hunter ultimately came out on top, claiming the trophy and capping off a remarkable season, alongside his fellow finalists who all put up great record breaking performances.
Travis Hunter, the Heisman Trophy winner, earned his place at the top with an outstanding season that earned him 2,231 points and 552 first-place votes. Hunter’s play on both sides of the ball versatility was on display throughout the year, as he helped lead Colorado to key victories, helped him solidify his status as one of college football’s top players, his consistency throughout the year ultimately earned him the top honor, just beating Jeany by a landslide.
Colorado’s wide receiver, Hunter shows gratitude on winning the Heisman trophy, focused on keeping his goals and influence in perspective.
“I told myself the first trophy I touched would be the one I take home, and here it is.” says Hunter. “To the kids who look up to me,” Hunter said, “keep going. Never let anyone tell you what you can’t do. Keep your foot on the gas,” says Hunter.
As the Heisman award announcement ceremony came to a close, Asthon Jeanty came out as a strong Heisman finalist, finishing in second place in the Heisman Trophy race. His impressive season earned him 2,017 points and 309 first-place votes. While Jeany didn’t take the trophy home, his performance throughout the year helped solidify his status as one of college football’s top players.
Boise State running back Jeanty, respectful of the outcome, couldn’t hide his competitive frustration after narrowly missing out on the Heisman Trophy.
“Obviously it wasn’t the result I was hoping for,” says Jeanty in an interview. “I really felt like I should’ve walked away with the award, but kudos to Travis for winning,”says Jeanty.
Impressively enough at the Heisman ceremony, Dillon Gabriel shocked the world as he emerged as a strong finalist, finishing in third place over Cam Ward in the Heisman Trophy race. His impressie season earned him 516 points and 24 first-place votes. While Gabriel did not claim the trophy, his remarkable performance throughout the season helped establish him as one of the top quarterbacks in college football.
Oregon’s quarterback Gabriel, believes others should have won.
“Oh I’m going to get some heat for this one but I’m going to say Ashton Jeanty Deserved the Heisman.” says Gabriel. “I say that because I was at the Group of 5 once, knowing the challenges that come with that,” says Gabriel
