Mr. Silver has been a fairly new teacher at Struthers High School who has made an explosive entrance and is liked by many.
As a cross country coach, he knows how to strategically plan out his life and makes sure he is on track and not falling behind.
As a young connoisseur of mathematics, he has always had a passion for math but never realized it until later on in life.
“Math was my passion from a pretty young age. I’ve loved math from 3rd grade and beyond. I knew in school that I wanted to pursue math as a career choice. It wasn’t until junior year/ senior year of high school when I decided on teaching. I didn’t feel as though my personality was suited for a career behind a desk,” said Silver.
The gymnast has also had a passion for physical education, sports medicine and mechanics of muscles.
The recent math teacher has had difficulty making math interesting for people who are determined to not like math, but he always tries his hardest to brighten the students day so that the class is better than they could have imagined.
“The most difficult part of teaching for me has been reaching students who have decided math is not their favorite subject. I try to make things fun and use my energy and love of math to get students engaged, but if a student has determined that math isn’t for them, I have a hard time getting them to work with me,” said Silver.
As a teacher he loves to watch kids understand and break down new concepts, which he calls “lightbulb moments.”
Silver is a man of many skills; he coaches different sports and even has hidden talents that most people don’t know about.
“I was a competitive gymnast for 11 years through high school, so I still have a party trick or two up my sleeve. I also love to sing, but you can be the judge as to whether that is a “talent” or not,” said Silver.
Silver used the knowledge and help from his coworkers to better himself and get him through obstacles that would be difficult to battle himself.
