The Buckeyes took on the Oregon Ducks on January 1. The Buckeyes would beat the Ducks 41-21 in the Rose Bowl.
The Ohio State Buckeyes ranked number eight in the playoffs beat the ranked No. 1 Oregon Ducks in the Rose Bowl to advance to the Cotton Bowl. The Buckeyes will play ranked No. 3 Texas on January 1, 2025 in the Cotton Bowl of the College Football Playoffs.
The Buckeyes have won two straight after their tough loss to their rivals the Michigan Wolverines. In Ohio State’s last two games, they have put up more than 40 points on their opponent, allowing their opponent to score less than 21 points in each game.
Ohio State’s head coach Ryan Day was ecstatic with the recent success of his team.
“I thought they really put it on the field and it came out aggressive but I thought Chip called an aggressive game and I certainly had a big smile on his face after,” said Day.
Ohio State started off at a good start scoring three touchdowns in the first quarter. By the end of the second quarter Ohio State was up 34-0, Oregon coming in with a field goal to put them on the board for the first time that night. Will Howard, Ohio State’s quarterback, threw for 319 yards, 3 touchdowns and zero interceptions.
Day exclaimed how the way they got to where they are didn’t go as they planned but the goal has remained the same.
“You know we wanted to win a National Championship and the way that we got here wasn’t what we expected and it wasn’t what we planned,” said Day.
Ohio State’s running back TreVeyon Henderson ran for 94 yards averaging 11.8 yards. He also scored 2 touchdowns for the Buckeyes. Jeremiah Smith Ohio State’s wide receiver caught for 187 yards averaging 28.7 yards. The Buckeyes defense getting 8.0 sacks on the Oregon defense, Cody Simon and Jack Sawyer lead the way for the Buckeyes defense.
Day emphasizes how Jack Sawyer is a great person and a great leader for the Buckeyes defense.
“I can’t say enough about Jack as a leader as a person, you know he really stands for what it means to be a Buckeye and to see him playing at a high level he’s the heart and soul of the front,” said Day.
Ohio State had a total of 500 yards, 319 of those yards being passing yards and 181 yards in rushing. The Buckeyes allowed the Ducks to get 276 yards, the Ducks going negative in rushing yards. Ohio State shows they are past the devastating loss to their rival the Michigan Wolverines after their last two games putting up over 40 points.
