Matzye has been a teacher for over 30 years in various school districts.
The main subject that he enjoys more than math is chemistry.
Matzye wanted to become a teacher because he always wanted to manage a team in sports.
“I always wanted to coach sports and enjoyed explaining how to do things,” says the Struthers teacher.
Matzye attended one school during his younger years and that school was Campbell High School, but he also was accepted into two different colleges that were named YSU and another in Michigan.
The soon-to-be retired teacher wanted to teach math because he enjoys the results one would get from finishing a math problem.
“Numbers and results always made sense to me. It’s great to see students get something they struggled to understand previously,” says the math teacher.
In five years, Matzye knows that he is going to be retired and relaxing on the beach with his family for most of the time, while the rest of the time he will be golfing.
He believes that the most frustrating part of teaching is helping the students remember all of the information that he is teaching them.
“The hardest part is helping students who just can’t retain information that is necessary to go to the next step. You just try another way,” says the golf lover.
While he has many hobbies, one of his most favorite ones is golfing with Mr. Garcar.
