Struthers Robotics team, accompanied by advisor SHS teacher Michael Donatelli, competed in another tournament on December 11th, 3 teams reaching top 2o out of 46.
The team has been active for 8 years. The team is quite successful and continues to impress their mentor and numerous other people as the years progress. Dontatelli has been the head of the robotics team for all 8 years and continues to lead students to victory in their tournaments.
Donatelli enjoys watching the students broaden their knowledge on the STEM subjects in robotics.
“My favorite part is watching them grow from the beginning of the year to the end, in teamwork skills and engineering skills,” says Donatelli.
The robotics program is funded through the school and other donations. They participate in tournaments called Saturday events which will determine if they make it to state, which they have made every year since 2017.
Student Matthew Wiseman claims he learns many important lessons from the class and team.
“Working on the team has taught me how to collaborate on a single project and how to navigate issues with my team,” says Wiseman.
The teams build their robots, and the robots participate in numerous games testing their strengths, introducing a name game every year. The winner of the games are based on the points scored. Their next tournament is January 28th.
Students believe the class is very beneficial, as long as you have what it takes.
“The class is very nice but it depends if you have a good work ethic and creative mindset it should be fine,” say students Wiseman and Logan Cabuno.
