The Cleveland Browns have solidified the second overall pick in the draft this year with the record of 3-14.
With the Browns having one of the lowest records in the league so far this year, it puts them in a better position for next year, by having the chance to draft a highly rated player. The Browns haven’t had a first round pick since the year of 2021, let alone one of the first picks in the first round.
There are many elite college players in the draft this year, and the Browns having the 2nd pick, they have the chance to potentially change their reputation and have a winning a season.
“It’s looking at what we’re doing to put our players in the best position to be successful. It’s looking how we practice, how we train to avoid the major losses that we’ve had in player availability over the past couple years. We really do have to look at everything,” says Browns GM Andrew Berry.
With the Browns needing players to fill some big spots on the team, they need to have a really good draft pick. The four Hiesman candidates are all on the board, two of them being QB’s. With Deshaun Watson having yet again another season-ending injury, leading to another disappointing season, the Browns may look to draft a QB. The Titans are the first round pick, depending on their pick, might determine who the Browns draft in the first round.
The Browns are likely to draft one of the four Heisman candidates, whether it’s at QB, RB or WR, the pick could change the Browns team around tremendously.
“I wouldn’t necessarily constrain us to any one way of attacking, whether it’s the quarterback position or any position across the roster. The reality of it is that room, it will look different next year,” Berry said. “(Watson’s setback) may obviously impact what the room looks like as we enter the season or camp depending on the severity of the setback, but I wouldn’t say that it had a significant impact,”” says Berry.
The four Heisman candidates that are all projected to get drafted in the first round. The winner of the Heisman Travis Hunter, coming out of Colorado and entered the draft earlier on in the year. Cam Ward, entering the draft out of The University of Miami, is one of the projected Quarterbacks along with Sheduer Sanders, to get drafted to Cleveland. Ashton Jeanty, Entered the Drated coming out of Boise State, after having one of the best seasons a RB could ever have. The final candidate Dillion Gabrial out of Oregon.
There is so much generational talent in the draft this year and so many good players that could potentially save some of the teams in the NFL.
“We’re at a good spot. We always work ahead with the draft; it’s like a year-and-a-half thing for us. We’ve obviously finished up the college scouting season now that almost all the college games are done,” Berry said. “Obviously, we’ve got a long way to go before we know the draft class intimately, but fortunately those are decisions that we’ll have to make at the end of April,” says Berry.
