Seventeen year old Natasha Kingsley is a girl who believes in science and facts, not fate and dreams that will never come true.
In the book “The Sun Is Also A Star,” Natasha is originally from Jamaica but moved to America when she was younger. Everything seemed to be working out until her dad got pulled over, and the police officer found out that he was an undocumented immigrant. Then when she is in the crowded streets of New York City trying to get everything figured out she runs into Daniel, and she falls in love with him even though she does not believe in love at first sight. Nastaha knows this can not be her story when her family is about to be deported to Jamaica in twelve hours. When she finally thinks her family will be able to stay, the immigration lawyer tells her they would have to be deported. Later that night Daniel helped her family pack, and they realized they would never see each other again. Five years later, Natasha is back in New York for school, and she reunites with Daniel at the same coffee shop they initially met in.
In “The Sun Is Also A Star” the development of the plot was really great. In the book, the whole thing took place within one day. This really made the book more interesting and suspenseful. Also, the author spent a good amount of time on each section of the book making it not too long but not ending in a cliffhanger. Throughout the book, the plot also helped to shape and show the characters emotions and how they evolved over the course of the book. The author also made the structure of events clear, so the reader can imagine what is going on to make it more engaging. Overall, the development of the plot added amazing context to help the readers understand.
The characters in “The Sun Is Also A Star” made the book more realistic and intriguing. Some of the main characters being Natasha, Daniel, Charlie, Patricia, Samuel and Dae Hyun. All of these characters go well together because when Natashsa and Daniel meet each other’s families. There is some tension. This tense is caused because Daniel is a Korean American so both of their families think it is odd that they are with each other. Charlie, who is Daniel’s older brother, often criticizes and mocks Daniel because of his decisions, and this leads to conflict throughout the book. Although the characters may not like and agree with each other, it takes the book to the next level because the reader never knows what to expect.
All in all, the book “The Sun Is Also A Star” gets a 5/5 because all of the aspects of the book were really great. This book would be recommended to someone because it is very intriguing to read, and it makes you wonder what is going to happen next.
