As a fairly new teacher of Struthers High School, Mrs. Lindsey Keller is excited and anxious to be in her 3rd year of teaching.
Her passion has always been to teach a language, so that’s why she took on the role to teach Spanish 2 and Spanish 3.
Keller’s extroverted personality and doing many activities makes her a great role model for students. Students can ask questions about many of her experiences to gauge whether they would or would not like to try the same thing.
“I love adventure and experiencing new things. I thrive off of anything outdoors such as hiking, camping, paddleboarding, kayaking, scuba diving etc. I also enjoy traveling, cooking, spending quality time with friends, going to the gym and crocheting,” said Keller.
She has an extravagant lifestyle, but even though she loves being with others she likes to be herself sometimes.
Keller has always had an interest in teaching, since she was a child she always wanted to give students a look of the outside world.
“I knew since I was little I wanted to become a teacher. It’s a job that is filled with so many different roles. I want students to feel confident in themselves, try new things, understand that failures can lead to success and open their eyes to many other realities existing outside of their own experiences,” said Keller.
As a language teacher, she has to problem solve in a completely different way than any other subject has to.
The most difficult part of teaching according to Keller is that every student has their own learning style and their own point of view on education.
“Teaching comes with many roles and many different students. Each individual has their own perspectives, wants and needs. Trying to find a way to balance practice with challenge and keeping motivation up is a constant. Motivation is key to everything, but we will all have our days. Although failure can be due to lack of preparation, many times it is because we are challenging ourselves out of our comfort zone, which is how we grow. Looking at failure in this approach will help keep our motivation going, growing and learning,” said Keller.
As the years go on she will continue to become a better teacher and evolve her teaching skills.
