In sports, there is a saying hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.
Hard work will get you farther in sports.
Talent is a natural skill. Hard work, on the other hand, is simply putting in the effort to achieve a goal. Talent often gets people started and gets them to push past the beginner’s frustration. But ultimately, it’s discipline and hard work that keeps them going. even with hard work if you are not constantly working on your skills they won’t improve. Testgorilla.com says, “Hard work can help individuals develop their talents and achieve tremendous success. Talents become useless and naturally fade with time if they aren’t put to good use. By working toward achieving a goal, one can not only make the most of their talent but also grow their skills beyond the scope of their natural gifts.”
Of course, talent is important in achieving success because talent cannot be developed by working hard. However, talent can only take you so far if you don’t work hard. At first, Tom Brady was not good enough to start on the 0–8 junior varsity team, which had not scored a touchdown all year. In college, Brady didn’t start until his junior year at the University of Michigan, and after Brady was drafted in the sixth round, 199th overall, by the New England Patriots in the 2000 NFL. Brady became the Patriots’ starter after replacing an injured Drew Bledsoe in 2001, and he–in addition to his record and seven Super Bowl championships–became a five-time Super Bowl MVP, three-time Most Valuable Player, 15-time Pro Bowler and two-time NFL Offensive Player of the Year. He is one of the best ever and nothing was given to him he earned everything he got through hard work.
People that are naturally good can’t get comfortable with just being good; they need to work hard and improve their skills. Coaches have to help them by making sure to keep an eye on them and make sure they are training to get better . Friends need to hold each other accountable and make sure they are giving the effort they should be.
You can be good with just talent, but you can’t be great without the ability to work hard. Even moderate talent with consistent practice and dedication can lead to great progress and can make up for any missing talent.
