The College Football Power Rankings recently came out, and some teams may have some bad blood about where they are in these rankings.
In Week 14, these rankings have changed a lot, many new teams and the same teams drop and go up in the rankings. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish make a statement from going up to the second seed while the Oregon Ducks stay at the one seed and show that they want that one seed solidified.
CBS Sports Writer Brandon Marcello is not surprised about how the Ducks have done this whole season.
“The Ducks have flown above the chaos all season. Oregon drilled rival Washington 49-21 to finish the regular season undefeated as the No. 1 team in the rankings. It will now play Penn State in the Big Ten Championship Game after not playing the Nittany Lions in the regular season,” he says.
The Ohio State Buckeyes were one of the biggest movers and not in the way we want. They dropped five seeds down after the loss to Michigan 13-10, leaving not only the team in jeopardy but Head Coach Ryan Day in that too. He’s gonna have a huge turnaround this season.
Marcello thinks Ohio State shouldn’t have lost this game.
“Michigan 13, Ohio State 10. This wasn’t supposed to happen, but it did. That’s why we play The Game. Ryan Day has a Michigan problem, and despite all his efforts to jump that mental hurdle, he couldn’t do it against a middling Wolverines team,” he says.
Now on a positive note, the Syracuse Orange make a big jump up seven spots into the 19 seed after a win against Miami 41-28 led by Ohio State transfer Quarterback, Kyle McCord, who has been playing really well since the move. This win could have secured a spot for Syracuse in a bowl game in the near future.
Marcello gives his credit to Syracuse after the huge movement in the rankings.
“Syracuse rallied from a three- touchdown deficit for a shocking 41-28 win against Miami. It’s the Orange’s first win against a top-10 team since 2017. Receivers Trebor Pena and Jackson Meeks each eclipsed 100 yards in the comeback win. And how about Ohio State transfer Kyle McCord, who threw for 380 yards and three touchdowns. You can be some Ohio State fans wishing they had him for their rivalry game against Michigan on Saturday,” he says.
With these last couple of weeks winding down from the 2024-25 college football season, a lot could happen in these rankings and only time will tell what happens next.
