“After” is a movie that is originally from WattPad Studios. It was put on Netflix on April 12, 2019, in the United States.
The movie is 1 hour and 46 minutes long. The main character, Tessa (Josephine Langford), starts off with having a high school boyfriend and a very controlling mother going off to her first year of college to be a writer. But as she gets away from her mother, she meets someone that really catches her eye; Hardin Scott (Hero Fiennes Tiffin). Tessa’s roommate ends up being a partier and introduces Tessa to Hardin. At first, Tessa didn’t want anything to do with him. But as they hung out at the party, she started to realize. Hardin’s friend in their friend group, Molly, dares him to fall in love with her and make her believe he loves her, then just drops her. This part of the movie really shows the romantic side of Tessa she wasn’t getting from her high school boyfriend, Noah.
What impacted her to get with him is the connection they held. They had a lot in common and were very deep souls. He brought her to this beautiful, private lake, and they swam together, falling in love. As their love started to grow, Noah started growing suspicious. One night when she wasn’t answering her phone, he randomly showed up to her college. Then he found Hardin with her. He was very heartbroken, and they ended their relationship. This then impacts her to start dating Hardin.
An important impact on the movie was when Hardin decided to go to a party, and at this point they were living together off campus in an apartment. Tessa was getting really worried because he wasn’t answering the phone for hours. She looks around the house and sees that he has left his phone on the table. There were texts from Molly on his phone, and they were at the party together. She went there to find out what they were talking about, then that’s when Molly told her about the dare. Tessa was so heartbroken and her view of him and the trust she had for him was gone. Also Tessa doesn’t believe Hardin when he says that he genuinely fell in love with her during those months they were together. It ends on a cliffhanger of Hardin trying to find his way back to her heart and make her believe he’s in love with her.
