“The Hunger Games” is a dystopian movie series based on the books. It came out March 23, 2012, in the United States.
This movie lasts for around 2 hours and 22 minutes, and it dives into the terrible experiences of Jennifer Lawrence (Katniss Everdeen) and Josh Hutchrson (Peeta Mellark) fighting for their lives in the Hunger Games. Every year, the Capital forces 2 people from districts 1 through 12 to sacrifice their life and go into the games, where there is only one sole survivor. In the beginning of the movie, it shows Katniss and her sister Willow Shields (Prim) heading to the yearly reaping getting ready to see who is picked. Unfortunately, Prim’s name was called, but Katniss decided to volunteer in order to protect her sister. Throughout the movie, it shows Peeta and Katniss developing their relationship with each other, as well as fighting to stay alive.
One important impact on this movie is Katniss singing, “Deep in the Meadow” to her fellow ally Amandla Stenberg (Rue) when she was dying in her arms. This song adds so much more to this scene by showing how hurt Katniss really was from Rue’s sudden death. This scene also helps develop the message of freedom and justice. This shows the Capitol’s evil ways young Rue lost her life, and many others did as well.
Another thing that is very entertaining about this movie are the fight scenes. These scenes are so intense it makes you feel like you’re in the arena with Katniss. It also helps you see what Katniss is going through, by showing her hallucinations and shock from explosions. These scenes make this movie so much better because of how realistic they look.
Taking all of this into consideration, “The Hunger Games” is highly recommended for people 13 and up who enjoy watching action and suspenseful movies because of the violence and gore shown.
