The Struthers High School football team played the Norton Panthers on November 1 at Struthers stadium.
This game was the first round of playoffs and allowed the Cats to move onto round two.
The Wildcats beat the Norton Panthers, 49-28. The game was an extra special game for the Wildcats because it was the seniors’ last game on their home field. Struthers led from the very beginning. Devin Braham ran the ball 38 yards, taking six Panthers to take him down. The 38-yard gain led to an 8 yard touchdown by Braham leaving the score 21-0 by the half.
But for Struthers Head Coach, John Bayuk, he’s already thinking about round two.
“Sometimes you face adversity during games and we did a great job dealing with those Friday nights. But,we have to learn from our mistakes and keep momentum from the win going into next week, “ says Bayuk.
This game was especially special for senior number four, Devin Braham. He won NE8 Player of the Year and earned a standing ovation by the football team, fans and everyone else at the game. Braham has become the all-time leading rusher for Struthers.
Braham expresses his gratitude towards his new achievement.
“I’m very happy that I won this award, and I feel very lucky to have won it,” says Braham.
One of the biggest parts of high school football is the fans and student section. The supporters always show up for the Struthers Wildcats and create a positive atmosphere that gives the team a boost of confidence. The students never disappoint with the themes especially being playoff week.
Sophomore Gianna Martin, who is always part of the student section, gives her positive outlook on the team’s winning potential.
“I feel that they have a good chance of winning, their whole season has been great, and I feel that they can beat them,” says Martin.
Struthers played Perry on November 8. Unfortunately, the team lost 3-0.
