Boardman Park’s Oktoberfest continues to excite people for the upcoming fall season by providing a plethora of fun activities and stands for all on September 29th.
The Oktoberfest is a continuing tradition at Boardman Park used to welcome the upcoming fall season with a multitude of stands selling fall and winter decor, providing activities in the commons area, offering many delicious food stands.
Student-volunteer Riley Guy believes Oktoberfest is a great opportunity for high school students to volunteer for their school and get to know people of the community.
“It’s a great opportunity. I do it every year because while it gives you NHS points, it’s a fun way to be involved and do something good for the rotary,”says Guy.
Boardman Park is known for its many yearly events; this has been their 48th Oktoberfest. It continues to grow in popularity over the years. The event brings in thousands of people from the community and over 150 vendors from 5 neighboring states.
Guy believes the festival is successful due to the fact it gives back to the community and brings people together.
Guy says, “I think it’s successful because of what it means to the community; the event is to make money to put back into our area, so I think people love to come and support that. I think the thing that makes it different and why I love it so much is that it’s not as overwhelming as other festivals like the Canfield Fair. You can walk around and have a good time without feeling anxiety from the amount of things and people there.”
The Struthers Rotary offers a volunteer opportunity to Struthers students; this opportunity allows them to run a cinnamon roll stand provided by Molnar’s. Students have the opportunity to run the money, make the cinnamon roll, and other miscellaneous jobs. This earns students a new opportunity as well as NHS points.
Guy believes this experience is a good one to have while being in the Interact Club.
“It’s a very fun and positive experience. You really get to interact with people in the community and the whole set up of the Oktoberfest is just fun to experience and be a part of,” says Guy.
