BROWNS MAKE BIG MOVES IN THE DRAFT
May 16, 2023
The NFL draft began on April 27th-29th. A lot of teams got better but some teams still managed to get worse.
The Browns didn’t have a 1st round pick for the first time since 2008, which is obviously very rare for a Cleveland team.
The Browns had to wait all the way until the 3rd round to make their choice. With the 74th pick they chose Cedrick TIllman, WR from Tennessee–a big, physical receiver who will fight for jump balls.
Coming into the draft a WR was one of the Browns biggest needs, and they got exactly what they needed.
“It’s always good to have a fellow Vol get drafted to whatever team you’re on. So, to have Ced up here — and then he’s an even better dude off the field — so, to have a guy like that coming into the locker room, man, I’m excited for him to get up here,” said Browns backup QB, Josh Dobbs about his new teammate.
The Browns had another selection in the 3rd round, with the 98th pick they chose Siaki Ika, a big DT from Baylor.
In the past season, the Browns worst spot was easily their DT’s, so getting one in the draft was a huge deal.
“I would say he’s a dang good prospect,” said former NFL coach Bill Johnson.
The Browns didn’t have their next draft pick until the 4th round, with the 111th pick, they got maybe their biggest steal of the draft, Ohio State OT, Dawand Jones.
Dawand Jones is huge even for an NFL player, he’s 6’8* and 374 lbs which is ridiculous and will give him an automatic advantage in the NFL.
“I’m a 4x jersey, but I don’t know all the numbers,” Jones said to local reporters after he was drafted. “Sometimes, they make it wider or make the split different, so I don’t know.”
The Browns had an overall very successful and will now start preparing for training camp, so they will be ready for next season.
