The Struthers boys’ baseball team kicked off their season this Tuesday, against the Lakeview Bulldogs. The Cats won the game 3-2.

The Cats have eight returning lettermans and 12 guys that played last year coming back again.

Although they have some key older guys on the team, they also have some younger guys they need to step up and fill roles.

The team believes they have the chance to be something special this year that the school has not seen in a long time.

“I think our season will go pretty well and we can go far in the playoffs,” says James Dechellis, a senior player on the team.

The season did not go as they thought it would last year, but they have a lot of guys returning so they can get some sort of redemption.

They have some big strengths on the defensive end, as well as three top tier pitchers in the NE8 conference.

“Our pitching is our biggest strength of all,” says DeChellis.

With some new incoming guys in the freshman class, the cats believe they have filled the roles they needed to in order to have a great season.

The coaching staff has done a great job preparing everyone for this season and they are working just as hard as the players.

“The coaches support us and keep us going throughout the game. If they weren’t there then it would be hectic,” says the senior.

Watch out for the Cats this year because they are working and they are working very hard.
