UFC 284 had some crazy matchups and powerhouse punches were being thrown left and right.

The show opened up with two light heavyweights Jimmy Crute (12-3-1) and Alonzo Menifield (13-3-1)) throwing heavy shots at each other. The fight should have gone to Alonzo as he had 67.5 percent significant strikes landed and 78 percent of his total strikes. Crute only landed 50 percent significant strikes and a total of 60.8 percent of his strikes.

However, Crute had more control time on the ground and three submission attempts and more takedowns.

The fight started great and was expected to be ended before the final bell, but decisions went to the judges and the judges ruled a draw. Crute and Menifield battled it out for 15 minutes but a late point deduction resulted in the fight ending in a majority draw to kick off the UFC 284 main card.

The next fight went up even more in weight with two power house heavyweights battling it out. Justin Tafa (6-3), and Parker Porter (13-8). The fight ended in a crazy first round knockout with one minute left of the first round. Tafa took the victory that night.

Tafa had two huge advantages throughout the fight though.

“The two biggest advantages Tafa possesses are his age (more than eight years younger than Porter) as well as his power,” says analyst Damon Martin.

The main fight ended with two legendary lightweights competing for the number one spot in the lightweight division. Islam Makhachev, who is primarily a wrestler, and Alexander Volkanovski who is a balanced fighter who can really compete in any field of combat.

The fight was won by Makhachev, but the decision had to go to the judges.

UFC 284 had some great matchups on the card. The last fight was highly anticipated by the UFC community. But if people liked this card, they will wait until they see the card for UFC 285.
