Senior Nathan Baird gives us the inside scoop of the High School Band and why he has stayed so long.

Baird has been in band his entire high school career, performing at every football game we’ve had.

When asked why he stayed, there was not a dry eye in the place.

“Band has sort of just become a part of my life. A big part of that. I’ve made many relationships in band that I think will be there for the rest of my life,” explains the trumpet player.

The pianist explains how he loves the boosts of adrenaline he gets while performing in front of a crowd.

The mellophone player has also had many wonderful recounts of his time.

“My favorite memory would have to be senior night and getting to walk with my parents. It was so surreal after watching all the other seniors before me thinking it would take forever to be in their shoes yet here we are… My favorite piece would probably be Jurassic Park from this year’s halftime show; my solo also has a special place in my heart,” says Baird.

Any incoming freshman and/or current high school student attending Struthers are welcome to join the band without audition.

The french horn player does have some advice for incoming members.

“Band is only worth it if you take it seriously. One downside is that a band is like family, you’ve been together for so long you form great connections, but with that comes drama and confrontations,” clarifies Baird.

While he also explains it gets frustrating when people don’t try as hard as others and is still one big happy family and a great opportunity to make new friends.

The instrumentalist leaves us with one last piece of advice: “PRACTICE!!”
